Ten years building the systems behind bold, cohesive brands

A Design Director and creative leader on translating commercial ambition into distinctive, scalable brand work, and why that discipline now points toward health insurance.

Design Director and creative leader with over a decade of experience building and leading multidisciplinary creative teams across global brands.

I specialise in brand development, creative strategy, and translating commercial ambition into distinctive, scalable brand systems. My experience spans rebrands, campaign platforms, eCommerce, retail, product storytelling, and multi-channel execution across international markets.

I lead with clarity and structure, setting strong creative standards while empowering teams to deliver bold, cohesive, commercially effective work.

“Great design is not decoration; it is a growth driver. My role as a leader is to set the standard, define the vision, and create the environment where talented creatives can produce their best work.” Adrian Duff, on Creative Direction
Section B · The Letter To the Hiring Team, Southern Cross

I'm excited to apply for the Principal Design Lead role at Southern Cross Health Insurance. The focus of the role, lifting design quality, strengthening practice, creating alignment and helping teams make better customer-led decisions, strongly matches the work I've led across global brand, digital and customer experience environments.

As Brand Director at noissue and previously Design Director at AS Colour, I've built design and brand systems that helped teams move faster, stay aligned and deliver more consistent outcomes across complex organisations. This has included leading international rebrands, defining design standards and messaging frameworks, mentoring experienced creative teams, and embedding practical ways of working across product, marketing, digital, retail and commercial teams.

What I would bring to Southern Cross is a combination of senior design judgement, structured thinking and calm, practical leadership. I'm experienced in turning ambiguity into clear principles, making rationale and trade-offs easier for stakeholders to understand, and coaching teams to raise the standard of their work without adding unnecessary complexity.

I'm particularly drawn to Southern Cross because design in health insurance has real consequence. It can help people understand complex information, feel confident in their choices and access support when it matters. That purpose aligns with the kind of work I care about: creating systems, experiences and communications that are clear, trusted and useful.

I would welcome the opportunity to bring my experience in design leadership, customer experience, brand governance and cross-functional alignment to Southern Cross as you continue shaping a healthier Aotearoa New Zealand.

Kind regards,
Adrian Duff
